Another slate of games, another round of picks from the BE&B staff.
Staff picks at the bottom!
Tuesday, January 6, 2015:
Marquette at Georgetown, 7pm:
Marquette proved me wrong by taking down Providence at home on Saturday. I am going against them again, but this time it’s on the road. Road underdogs are in trouble in Big East play. Georgetown takes care of business in this one.
Georgetown 74, Marquette 59.
#8 Villanova at #24 St. John’s, 9pm:
Rysheed Jordan is back from his 3-day leave of absence. No matter the reason for his short departure from the team, it is extremely important for him to be in the lineup and playing well for the Johnnies to have a chance for an NCAA Tourney berth. I don’t like the style St. John’s plays against Villanova, so I am taking the #8 Cats. You need shooters to beat Villanova (unless they miss 15 FTs).
Villanova 70, St. John’s 61.
Providence at Butler, 9pm:
Butler took advantage of Rysheed Jordan’s absence and defeated St. John’s on Saturday. St. John’s was coming off a loss and was desperate not to start 0-2 in league play, but the Bulldogs prevailed. This time, Butler faces another team coming off a loss, and I think the result will be the same. Kellen Dunham gets it done.
Butler 69, Providence 65.
Wednesday, January 7, 2015:
#19 Seton Hall at Xavier, 7pm:
Seton Hall enters the AP Poll for the first time this season coming off back-to-back wins at home over Top 25 teams. It’s time for a letdown. Xavier is about as inconsistent as they come, but I am taking the Musketeers to get this win at home.
Xavier 77, Seton Hall 70.
DePaul at Creighton, 9pm:
All good things come to an end. DePaul is 2-0 in the Big East, but the undefeated mark will not last. Creighton needs this one at home to keep any hopes alive of securing an at-large berth. You just can’t lose to DePaul if you’re going to be on the bubble. Hopefully, it doesn’t come back to haunt Xavier.
Creighton 76, DePaul 61.
